Connor Bedard gets painfully honest about the Blackhawks’ struggles after the Flames loss

The The Chicago Blackhawks are at the bottom of the league once again in 2024-25. The Blackhawks fired head coach Luke Richardson in an attempt to boost the team during the season. However, Chicago is still not playing well. And these losses are hard for star players Connor Bedard take.

Bedard scored his 12th goal of the season on Monday night against the Calgary Flames. Until then, however, Chicago had no solution for a comeback. The Flames cruised to a decisive 5-2 victory at the United Center in Chicago on Monday. The loss dropped the Blackhawks to 14-28-2 on the season, keeping them in the Western Conference basement. After the game, Bedard opened up about the effect these losses have.

“It’s really frustrating. We are competitive athletes and take great pride in our games, our group as a team and our fan base. It was difficult. There were a lot of games to lose. It weighs you down. Yeah, I mean, I’m just trying to find a way, I’m trying to get better every day. But it’s hard,” the Blackhawks star said, via Chicago Sun-Times reporter Ben Pope.

Connor Bedard explains what went wrong for the Blackhawks against the Flames

Connor Bedard and the Blackhawks never had much of a Monday night fight. The Blackhawks trailed 3-1 in the first period, and lost 5-2 entering the third period. Chicago had 25 shots on goal. However, they allowed almost 40.

Bedard explained why Chicago he couldn’t get anything going against his opponent. “(There was) a lot of crashing the boards or guys not being where guys expect them to be when they pass. So you end up with no options. And that makes it difficult,” the Blackhawks star explained via Pope.

The Blackhawks hit a huge roadblock. Chicago has lost three straight since defeating the Colorado Avalanche on January 8th. More broadly, the team has lost nine of its last 11 games. They remain the only team in the NHL that has yet to surpass 30 points. This is despite the fact that they have more wins than the San Jose Sharks and Nashville Predators.

The Blackhawks are headed in the wrong direction. And if they don’t figure something out soon, it could drastically affect their future trajectory. Bedard leads Chicago back on the ice Thursday when they take on the Predators.
