Conspiracy theories about Victor Vembanyama’s height have been debunked by insiders
Recently, the San Antonio Spurs fell back to Earth with a loss on the way against the Phoenix Suns, handing them their first loss of the 2025 NBA season. The game brought the “best player in the world” talk to a screeching halt. around Victor Vembanyamawho kept only nine points in the defeat.
Still, Vembanyama has had an otherwise excellent start to the 2025-26 NBA season, cementing himself as the league’s best defender and one of its most dynamic offensive weapons.
Going into this season, there were rumors that Vembanyama may have actually grown even taller over the summer than he was last season. Recently, Spurs insider Jared Weiss of the Athletics stopped by FanDuel’s “Run It Back” show to give the real story at Vembanyama’s height.
“Wemby is apparently 7’4 barefoot. I did a story on The Athletic where we explain the method the NBA requires these guys to measure. It takes four different trainers, one person’s job is to literally sit on the ground and hold the player by the ankles and lift their toes off the floor so their heels are glued to the floor,” We said. “This is what they do. There’s a guy on the side who just makes sure the person doesn’t swing too much one way or the other.”
A lethal weapon for Spurs
Outside of the puzzling game against the Phoenix Suns, Victor Wembanyama has looked like a true alien at times this year, consistently blocking and otherwise deflecting shots at the rim on defense and using his length and agility to get whatever he wants on offense. Vembanjama has also significantly reduced his three-point attempts this year, making him much more difficult to guard.
Spurs have also done a good job of building a solid squad around Wembanyama, although standout rookie Dylan Harper has recently gone down with injury.
San Antonio will next take the floor on Wednesday night against the Los Angeles Lakers on the road.
