The Dallas Mavericks no longer need to wait a Cooper Flagg throwing. Flagg may have fallen behind in the NBA rookie power rankings. But he dunked savagely on the New Orleans Pelicans who ended up looking down.

The top overall pick of 2025 NBA draft sprinted in transition before nailing this alley-oop.

Karlo Matkovic became the one Flagg knocked on. The forward tried to make a block, but Flagg saw him as the Pelicans defender fell to the floor. Then came a fiery look from the Mavericks’ prized rookie.

All Maverick teammates embraced Flagg for his viscous finish. Fans then rallied around the Pelicans online on social media website X, formerly Twitter, as they praised the former Duke Blue Devil star’s epic moment.

“Are you serious” was written on the NBA account in big letters in awe of the dunk. Then the NBA Australia account sent this reminder: Don’t jump with Cooper Flagg. Another fan posted this reaction.

“Cooper Flag here embarrassing grown men on opening night? That’s why he’s the #1 pick! Poster material already Duke’s blood runs deep. Who is stopping this child?”

The dunk wasn’t Flagg’s only highlight. Mike Curtis of The Dallas Morning News said he was a rookie he now has 100 career points.

Flagg entered Wednesday’s contest with some believing he would soon escape, including from Kevin Durant. Nevertheless Flagg came in with some statistical caveats. Now he made his first big NBA play that sparked his first big professional reactions.
