Cooper Flag has already hailed Jason Kidd as a ‘unicorn’

DALLAS — The Dallas Mavericks will host the Washington Wizards on Friday night. Although Cooper Flagg played in only one NBA regular season contest heading into Friday’s game, the 18-year-old has already impressed the Mavs head coach Jason Kidd. Actually, Kidd even called Tag “unicorn” as you speak to reporters ahead of Friday’s competition.
“He was one of the unicorns,” Kidd said of Flagg. “He competes, he wants to win. That’s a gift and he has it. When you talk about competition, he jumps around the floor, competes every possession offensively and defensively. He doesn’t take possession away.
“The big ones did it when they came into the league and so far it’s working.”
Kidd, a Hall of Famer, has clearly been impressed with Flagg so far.
Jason Kidd believes in Cooper Flagg’s NBA future
There have been plenty of talented players over the years in the NBA. However, not everyone has an elite work ethic. The greats—like Michael Jordan and LeBron James—seem to outdo everyone. Kidd believes Flagg can become one of the greats – and it’s clear that work ethic only reinforces that belief.
Flagg endured an up and down NBA debut on Wednesday in a 125-92 loss to the San Antonio Spurs. It was just one game, of course, and the future remains extremely bright for the 2025 No. 1 overall pick.
Cooper Flagg will try to make a comeback on Friday night as the Mavs hope to earn their first win of the 2025-26 NBA season against the Wizards.
