Cooper Flagg introduces himself to Devin Booker with an unreal block
Wednesday night, Dallas Mavericks they took on their old rival the Phoenix Suns in their first game of the post-Nick Harrison era. Harrison made a lot of mistakes during his time at the helm, namely replacing Luka Doncic when there was no need for it. But at the very least, he left the Mavericks with a glimmer of hope in the form of Cooper Flagg after they hit gold in the 2025 NBA draft lottery.
Flagg has a long way to go before establishing himself as a superstar in the NBA. But he’s already shown plenty of flashes of being one of the most impressive two-way players in the association — until the Mavericks make him the primary ball handler. Against the Suns, he showed how much of a monster he can be defensively. introducing himself Devin Booker with an impressive block in full overtime to hit a high-curved floater from the Suns star.
What did it do? Mark such a tempting prospect for starters was his high defensive ceiling. Some pundits have projected him to have an Anthony Davis or Kevin Garnett impact on that side of the court, and so far he’s showing just how disruptive he can be at his young age.
With a few more years of NBA basketball under his belt, it should be inevitable that Flag will become one of the best two-way players in the league for the Mavericks.
The Mavericks are struggling to stop the bleeding
It seems fitting that the Mavericks will face the Suns in their first game since firing Harrison. Dallas dominated this Phoenix team, even contributing to their downfall with the way they beat them in the 2022 NBA Playoffs. But this season, the Suns have all the good vibes in the world — unlike the Mavs.
At the time of writing, the Mavs were down 15, 95-80, entering the fourth quarter. Flagg was solid, scoring 15 points, five rebounds, five assists, three steals and two blocks. They have 12 minutes left to try to get back to winning ways.
