Cooper Flagg kicks off 2026 with some great poster dunks
The Dallas Mavericks pinning all their hopes and dreams on returning to the fray on the shoulders of Cooper Flaggfirst overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft The Mavericks certainly have a lot worse things to hold on to, especially when Flagg showed just how incredible a player he can be as early as his rookie campaign.
Despite the Mavericks’ 123-108 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers to open the 2026 calendar year, Flagg wowed the American Airlines Center crowd with two great dunks, including a poster on former Mavericks guard Quentin Grimes, during the early going.
For Flegg’s first dunk, he pulled down a miraculous jumper with less than six minutes left in the first quarter, connected with Naji Marshall for a give-and-go, then went for a one-handed jam on full extension over a half-hearted bid by Grimes, much to the excitement of the crowd.
In the same period, the cornerstone of the Mavericks franchise intercepted a weak pass from Tyrese Maxey along the half court line and I was on a fast break. Flagg then went for the points in style, leaping from near the free throw line and hitting a two-handed dunk in emphasized fashion.

Flagg finished the night with 12 points, seven rebounds and seven assists on 5-15 shooting from the field.
Cooper Flagg, the Mavericks need better guard play
It’s been apparent all season that the Mavericks roster just needs an All-Star level point guard to lead a roster that looks poised to compete even in the loaded West. It’s quite ironic that this Mavs roster would be humming if they had Luka Doncic still on the roster, while the Los Angeles Lakers desperately need someone like Anthony Davis to fix their defensive woes.
For what it’s worth, Brandon Williams had a solid 14-5-7 game off the bench as The Mavs continue to address their guard issues.
