Cooper Flagg reacts to Dallas’ ‘solid start’ to the season

DALLAS — The Dallas Mavericks have suddenly earned three consecutive victories. However, before the winning streak, the Mavs were among the worst teams in the NBA. They are still only 12th in the Western Conference standings at 8-15, but the team is heading in a promising direction. After a 118-108 win over the Miami Heat on Wednesday, Cooper Flagg discovered how a team can learn from their previous “rocky start” to the 2025-26 campaign.

“I think I learned a lot during that period,” Flagg told reporters. “As a team, I think we’ve learned a lot. Obviously it wasn’t the start we were looking for… I think we’ll have a lot of gratitude if we can get the success, and bounce back from a really tough start. We’ve learned a lot, I’ve learned a lot personally. I think I’ve grown a lot in that time as well.

“I hope to continue to grow and progress.”

The Mavs are playing improved basketball. Ryan Nembhard looks like the point guard of the future. Klay Thompson finds his rhythm beyond the arc. Anthony Davis is a significant influence after returning from injury.

Of course, the Mavericks may still be a year or two away from becoming a legitimate contender. With Kyrie Irving It is expected to return in early 2026, however, anything could happen. A roster with Flagg, Irving, Davis, Thompson and plenty of depth will be intriguing.

However, the Mavs are ready for a big test on Friday against the league’s best team in the Oklahoma City Thunder. Tip-off is scheduled for 9:30 PM EST in Oklahoma City.
