Cooper Flagg will miss the Thunder clash with a lingering foot injury

Cooper Flagg has missed six straight games due to sprain injury of the left middle part of the foot. Although the walking boot was recently removed, there doesn’t seem to be a timetable for its return yet Dallas Mavericks star.

Reports indicate that the 19-year-old is a rookie will miss Sunday’s competition against the Oklahoma City Thunder, according to Grant Afsett of the DallasHoop Journal. This will be Flagg’s seventh straight game since being injured on Feb. 10 in the Mavericks’ 120-111 loss to the Phoenix Suns.

Dallas Mavericks rookie Cooper Flagg (left midfoot sprain) is out for Sunday against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The news that the former No. 1 overall pick was ruled out on Saturday may not be all that surprising. Mavericks coach Jason Kidd said Friday that he doesn’t even expect the Cooper Flag to be available for a March 3 matchup against Kon Knuepel and the Charlotte Hornets. If that’s the case, Flagg could be out at least two more games.

Despite troubling injury issues in recent weeks, Flagg looked like a franchise cornerstone during his rookie season. He’s still in Rookie of the Year consideration because he’s played at a high level when healthy. In 49 games played, Flagg is averaging 20.4 points, 6.6 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 1.2 steals per game while shooting 48.2% from the floor and 30.2% from the three-point line.

With Cooper Flagg shut out once again, RJ Nembhard Jr. and Brandon Williams should see something at the point guard position. With PJ Washington and Marvin Bagley III also ruled out for the game against the Thunder, the Mavericks will likely lean on Max Christie, Klay Thompson and Daniel Gafford.
