Cooper Kupp takes on Philip Rivers before facing the 44-year-old KB

The Seattle Seahawks got off to a slow start before erupting in the second half of their Week 14 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons. After a 6-6 halftime tie, Seattle scored 17 points in the third quarter before adding 14 more in the fourth while holding Atlanta to a field goal. The The 37-9 loss ended the Seahawks’ winning streak for three consecutive games.

Now Seattle will host the Indianapolis Colts in Week 15. And the team is a bit of a wild card with a big question mark at quarterback. Philip Rivers volunteered to take over for Daniel Jones, who tore his Achilles in Week 14. And there is opportunity Rivers starts for the Colts.

Cooper Coupe admitted he is excited about potentially facing Rivers in 2025. He even imitated 44-year-old KB, who is known for his aggressively healthy profanity substitutions. “Shoot, heck, he’s a good player, man,” Cupp told ESPN’s Brady Henderson.

“Shoot, it’s Philip Rivers. His resume speaks for itself. It’s going to be really cool to be out there and be on the field with a future Hall of Famer.”

Seahawks head coach Mike McDonald also praised Rivers’ attempt to retire. “If anybody can pull it off, it’s him. The guy’s probably one of the best running backs in NFL history. I’m sure he’d do anything to get ready. So we’re getting ready for him.”

The Seahawks have won seven of their last eight games. Seattle’s only loss in that stretch was a costly one, as the team came up short against the Los Angeles Rams. That play is the difference in the NFC West right now. Both the Seahawks and Rams have 10-3 records. But LA has the tiebreaker. For now.

Seattle gets another shot at Los Angeles in Week 16. And the Seahawks will be at home for that matchup, which could determine the top seed in the conference. Whichever team fails to win the division could drop from the No. 1 seed to the No. 5 seed despite having the second-best record in the NFC.

But first, Seattle needs to avoid falling victim to the classic trap game, when the team loses its starter to a devastating injury and replaces him with a guy who retired half a decade ago because the coach doesn’t trust the other two quarterbacks on the roster.
