Could Christian Brown sign $125 million contract extension?

The Denver Nuggets just days away from the start of their 2025-26 NBA campaign, but Christian Brown he has yet to put pen to paper on a contract extension with the team that welcomed him into the league. With the NBA’s extension deadline set to expire this Monday, the question of whether or not the Browns and Nuggets will reach a deal has become a growing topic.

The former Kansas Jayhawks star is reportedly seeking a new deal worth five years, with a range of $115 million to $125 million. There is said to be some “pessimism” about such a contract passing, but the needle may have moved a little according to Brown’s favor.

“Ahead of Monday’s deadline extension, there is cautious optimism that the Denver Nuggets and Christian Brown will reach a deal, league sources told HoopsHipe,” wrote HoopsHipe’s Michael Scotto on Monday.

“Discussions between the Nuggets and Brown’s representative, Bill Duffy of VME Sports, have centered on a five-year deal in the $115-$125 million range, league sources told HoopsHipe,” Scotto added.

Brown, who turned 24 in April, has proven to be a valuable member of the Nuggets. While Denver however, they will go where three-time MVP Nikola Jokic leads themBrown played a significant role on the team during his first three years in the pros.

In the 2024-25 NBA season, Brown became a regular starter for the first time and averaged career highs in points (15.4), rebounds (5.2), assists (2.6) and steals (1.1) per game as his minutes increased from just 20.2 minutes per contest, mostly as a reserve in 2020, to 3-3.3.49. His efficiency numbers also didn’t drop despite the increased responsibilities in 2024-25, as he announced career best as well as true shooting percentage (66.5%), vin shares (8.0) and vin shares in 48 minutes (.144).

Let’s assume Brown doesn’t get an extension from the Nuggets, who are also trying to stay under the first tax apronthey will be at risk of losing him to free agency in the summer of 2026 after exercising their club options on him for the 2024-25 and 2025-26 seasons.

The Nuggets will begin their 2025-26 road trip this Thursday as they face Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors at the Chase Center in San Francisco.
