‘Damn it, brother!’ Jalen Williams amazed by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s ridiculous streak

Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has the second longest streak of 20+ points in NBA history, surpassing Wilt Chamberlain’s streak of 92 games, prompting a strong All-Star reaction Jalen Williams. Gilgeous-Alexander finished with 26 points on 8-of-15 shooting in Sunday’s 123-115 win over the Portland Blazers. The win extended the Thunder’s winning streak to 12. Oklahoma City is 20-1.

After the win, Williams learned about Gilgeous-Alexander’s 20+ point streak in 93 straight games, including an eight-point win against the Blazers on the road.

“Pretty impressive streak. Out of 20 (points) you say? Holy shit, bro,” Williams said. “It’s pretty crazy. I think watching him train over the summer, watching him work tirelessly on his body and his craft, it’s not that shocking to me when I hear that stat. He works hard enough, and he outperforms a lot of competition where it’s almost expected.”

Sitting front row to watch the league’s reigning scoring champion, you can almost forget how elite the SGA scorer is compared to the rest of the league, as Jalen admits.

“We probably take it for granted,” Williams added. “Then when you see stats like that, it kind of puts it back into perspective. How hard he works and tries to improve his craft, it also doesn’t shock me.”

In just the second game of the regular season, Jalen Williams finished with 16 points, eight rebounds, five assists and three blocks in the Thunder’s win against the Trail Blazers. Chet Holmgren added 19 points and nine rebounds, and Ajay Mitchell leads the bench with 17 points and five assists.

Thunder All-Star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander surpassed Wilt Chamberlain’s second-longest 20+ point streak with his 93rd consecutive 20+ point performance in the win against the Trail Blazers. While Chamberlain’s streak of 20 or more points still stands at an incredible 126 consecutive games, his second longest streak was 92. This comes after Gilgeous-Alexander joined Michael Jordan in the midst of his impressive start in the regular season.

In a tough game, the Blazers nearly ended Gilgeous-Alexander’s streak on Sunday, as he scored just 16 points with four minutes left. Then the reigning MVP exploded down the stretch, scoring 10 points to secure the victory. His layup with 4:18 left extended the Thunder’s lead to 107-100, the key basket in a game with 28 lead changes.

Gilgeous-Alexander and the Thunder will face the Warriors on the road on Tuesday.
