Dan Campbell’s “f*cking F” grade sets the bar high

Recently, the Detroit Lions Season 2025 ended in a surprising way win over the Chicago Bears in the NFC North divisional battle. While that win may have given the Lions the tiniest bit of momentum to start the offseason, it’s still been a rough campaign for the Lions this year, who missed the playoffs entirely after clinching the top seed in the NFC a year ago.
Recently, he is the head coach of the Lions Dan Campbell he was asked to rate his performance as a head coach this season.
“It’s not good enough. We didn’t get in,” Campbell said, via the team transcript, per Myles Simmons of NBC Sports’ Pro Football Talk. “I think we failed, so it’s not good. I’m going to give myself a fucking ‘F’.”
Campbell received criticism for taking over for the Lions at one point this season, which didn’t exactly produce great results for the team and had fans wishing Ben Johnson was still around.
Still, Campbell found something positive to say about the season as well.
“Well, I’m proud of the way these guys have responded every week,” Campbell said. “It’s not easy. You win, you lose, you win, you lose, you win. And for these guys – sure it can be frustrating, but they went back to work every Wednesday and went after it, they tried to get better. You go out to games and they bust their (ass) and it just sometimes didn’t work out the way you wanted it to.”
The upcoming offseason will be an important one for a Lions team that at one point looked like the next big thing in the NFC, but is now at risk of being passed over by several other up-and-coming teams, including the Bears, who will host a playoff game next week.
