D’Angelo Russell is a late addition to the injury report for the Pelicans’ showdown


As it is The injury bug continues its wrath on the Dallas Mavericks, D’Angelo Russell is listed as suspect in front of his NBA Cup clash against the New Orleans Pelicans. Russell was added to the Mavericks injury reportjoining the likes of Kyrie Irving, Anthony Davis and Dante Exum.

Russell has not been ruled out for Friday’s game against the Pelicans, but he could be late scratch for the Mavericks, according to Joey Mistretta of ClutchPoints.

“D’Angelo Russell is now listed as questionable on the Mavericks injury report due to an illness,” Mistreta reported.

Russell’s 23 points on 9-of-15 shooting, including 4-for-7 from deep, seven assists and five rebounds led the Mavericks bench alongside Najib Marshall (23 points, five rebounds) in a 113-111 loss to the New York Knicks. D’Angelo assumed the sixth man role in his first season with Dallas.

While starting three games while Irving continues to recover from a torn ACL, Russell has been able to lead the Mavericks’ bench for coach Jason Kidd. Averaging 12.6 points, 5.0 assists and 2.9 rebounds, D’Angelo was a consistent scorer.

The Mavs will look to bounce back from Wednesday’s loss when they host the Pelicans on Friday.

Mavericks rookie Cooper Flagg has been cleared to play in Friday’s NBA Cup game against the Pelicans. He was on the injury report as available to play afterward Flagg missed the Thunder’s game against the Knicks on Wednesday. Cooper is dealing with the disease.

However, he will rejoin the Mavericks’ lineup for Friday’s game against the Pelicans. Between injuries to key players like Anthony Davis and Kyrie Irving to the firing of former GM Nick Harrison, it’s been a tumultuous start to the NBA’s top prospect from an environmental perspective.

However, it affected the team’s success this season, or lack thereof, as the Mavericks fell to 4-12 for the third-worst record in the Western Conference. They’ll look to add a fifth to their winning streak against the worst record in the West — 2-13 — the Pelicans.
