Daniel Gafford is getting a lot of injury information as the start of the season nears

The Dallas Mavericks will face the San Antonio Spurs in the season opener, and many want to know the availability of one of their players. Daniel Gafford is one of those players, like dealing with a sprained ankle which he suffered a few weeks ago.

He appears to be working to get back on the field as soon as possible, and head coach Jason Kidd gave an update on his status, according to Mavericks reporter Landon Thomas.

“Jason Kidd said Brandon Williams and Caleb Martin went through practice. Daniel Gafford put in some individual workouts. Dante Exum was out,” Thomas wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

Gafford has had a history of injuries, particularly during the final stretch of last season. He sat out the final two months of last year after suffering a Grade 3 MCL sprain in his right knee in February 2025.

Staying healthy will be a big key for the Mavericks this season, and Gafford will be a big part of what they do, especially their success in the frontcourt. Gafford has been a starter for the Mavericks since arriving with the team during a season in which they reached the NBA Finals.

Luckily for the Mavericks, they have Derrick Lively II, who has been an outstanding center for them since they drafted him. The Mavericks also have the option to move Anthony Davis to center over time, though he might prefer to play at the 4. Hopefully Gafford will be back sooner rather than later and can help the team get off to a fast start.

The Mavericks have the talent on their roster to compete this season and when Kyrie Irving returns later in the yearit should add to what they have already managed to achieve.
