Danny Wolfe receives an offensive challenge from Jordi Fernandez during the G League

Brooklyn Nets newcomer Danny Wolf is still waiting for his first extended NBA minutes. Meanwhile, the 27th pick has been gaining experience in the G League, appearing in seven games with the Long Island Nets.

Wolff has been Long Island’s most productive player early this season. The 21-year-old averaged 20.3 points, 10.3 rebounds and 3.1 assists on .481/.333/.778 shooting. Despite this, Brooklyn head coach Jordi Fernandez feels the talented big man has room to grow in several areas.

“I want him to be ready to shoot, especially in the last game, he passed some of them. And then use his ability to pass, for sure, because he’s very good at that. More than passing, it’s being an effective playmaker, which is 2 to 1 (assist to turnover ratio) or better. That’s the ratio you want,” Fernandez. “I believe he can get to the 3-on-1. That’s the mindset of always reading what’s in front of you, how many people are in the game. He’s obviously very good at making pick-and-rolls with bigs and playmaking and spraying the ball. Those little reads are important to him. That’s what we want from him when he plays with an NBA team, when he plays with an NBA team, when he plays with an NBA team. we see, and we want to keep doing that. We’re very happy where he is right now.

Wolff showed off his versatile offensive skill set with Long Island.

After playing long stretches as a 6-foot-11 guard for Michigan last season, the big man was a dribble-pass-shoot threat during his G League appearances. However, he struggled to take care of the ball, averaging 3.1 assists and 3.3 turnovers per game.

Turnovers were a problem for Wolff last season. The Nets rookie primarily played with his back to the basket during his first two college seasons at Yale. While he is wowed at Michigan with rare ball-handling and passing ability for his size, he averaged 3.2 turnovers per game.

As Fernandez noted, Wolf added some outside shots during his last game. However, the rookie was a willing three-point shooter mostly with Long Island. He attempts 6.4 3-pointers in 36 minutes while converting at 33.3 percent. Wolf attempted 3.6 3-pointers in 36 minutes last season at Michigan, converting 33.6 percent.

Wolff is the only one of the Nets’ five NBA draft picks who has yet to play extended minutes with Brooklyn. He will have a chance to do so on Friday. With Michael Porter Jr. tight lower backThe Nets called up Wolff for their home opener against the Philadelphia 76ers.
