Davante Adams may be part of the Packers’ VR plans, but not the whole thing

The The Green Bay Packers need to fix their wide receiver positionthis offseason, and there’s good reason to believe so a reunion with Davante Adams it can be on the table.

Can’t you imagine what Adams would look like in Green and Gold? Actually, it’s not that hard to imagine, because the Packers know exactly who and what they would get out of Adams. Remember, they drafted him with the 53rd pick in the 2014 NFL Draft out of Fresno State and he slowly but surely became one of the best wide receivers in the league while in Green Bay.

A lot of that was due to the alien connection he had with the four-time MVP Aaron Rodgerssure, but Adams became a beast on his own merits.

He is one of the best route runners in the NFL and after initially struggling with drops early in his career, he has become one of the best receivers in the NFL. He and Rodgers were a lethal combination on the back of the shoulder, but they could really do anything together.

Adams played sparingly with Jordan Lovewho was a backup at the time, and was traded to the Las Vegas Raiders before Rodgers was traded to the New York Jets.

Rodgers and Adams reunited with the Jets for one of the most disappointing reunions in NFL history, however, and now both appear to be on their way out of New York’s dysfunctional organization.

Adams, specifically, has two years left on his current $35.6 million-a-year contract. That’s a ton of money to pay for an aging franchise that is surely entering a rebuild with a new head coach and front office. There is a way out in Adams’ contract, however, it would net the Jets significant savings, so the smart money is parting ways sometime this offseason and Adams becoming a free agent.

Where he will end up there is anyone’s guess, but he recently spoke with Kay Adams and broke down the Packers’ offseason needs. One of those needs, in his estimation, was a reliable veteran pass catcher.

“You have to see what it is with (Romeo) Doubs and Christian (Watson), obviously, Romeo has had a couple of plays this year where he ends up taking a little hit and hitting his head on the ground, so you see where he is with that. . And you know, you never know. It’s kind of a situation where it could be, you know, a week, or it could be, you know, it could go longer than that,” Adams explained. “Well, we’ll see.” Anyway, I’m praying for him. But yeah, I just think it kind of depends on the health of the team and right now it looks like they might need receiver help one way or another, just based on what they have available,” Adams said. “And you know, maybe a veteran or something there.” I don’t know, we’ll see.”

If it’s not Adams slyly reaching out to the Packers’ GM Brian Gutekunstwhat would happen then? All of this, of course, is contingent on the Jets releasing Adams and somewhat contingent on Rodgers’ future as well.

If Rodgers stays with the Jets, Adams may also want to recruit and stay. If Rodgers leaves New York but wants to continue playing, perhaps Adams will continue to follow him. However, in the event Adams is cut by the Jets and wants to go his own way, duplicating the excellent track he once blazed in Green Bay could be a very intriguing thought for both sides.

A reunion between Davante Adams and the Packers would make sense

Adams knows head coach Matt LaFleur, and he played with Love. He is happy with the organization and knows what it means to play in Green Bay. He would also be the type of heady and consistent veteran that a quarterback like Love could really use, especially since he seemingly regressed a bit in 2024.

That said, even if Gutekunst can pull off a reunion with Adams, it can’t be his only wideout move this 2025 offseason. The The Packers invested in Love in a big wayand they also invested a lot of resources in their defense. The latter has paid off as new defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley seems to have that unit headed in the right direction in 2025.

What Gutekunst put around the Loves was essentially a little bit of depth that never realized their potential in 2024. Christian Watson cannot be counted on to stay healthyand will miss most of 2025. Romeo Daubs and Jaden Reed are consistently inconsistent, and Dontayvion Weeks has a lot of potential, but that’s still all he is right now.

They’re role players, and role players don’t win Super Bowls.

One of the ways The Packers can improve through the draft. Gutekunst really needs to keep pumping talent into that wide receiver room in hopes that a superstar or two emerges to help Love out. The the other would be free agencyand Adams can be a part of it. Another very intriguing option would be Tee Higgins, but how about both? If the Packers want to make a serious Super Bowl run in 2025, that’s the kind of offseason Gutekunst needs to have in terms of his wide receiver room.
