Dave Portnoy among gamblers angry at officials, Pete Carroll
The Las Vegas Raiders lost on Denver Broncos 24-17 on Sunday, falling to 2-11 on the season. A the late Kenny Pickett touchdown cut Denver lead by ten points, but Vegas wasn’t done there. The Raiders benefited from a penalty and kicked a last-second field goal, causing many to question the officials and Pete Carroll. Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy was one of the many angry because of the bad gambling beat. Las Vegas was a 7.5-point underdog at most bookmakers.

The penalty Portnoy is referring to is a delay of game foul that was called against the Broncos with five seconds remaining. After Tyler Lockett caught the ball, Denver linebacker Brandon Jones hit him. In the process, he tried to rip the ball away from Lockett after the whistle. It was called a delay of game, which stopped the clock. The Raiders ran out of timeouts.
The Raiders then set up for a Daniel Carlson field goal with five seconds left. He made the kick, cutting the deficit to seven. That flipped the line from an easy Denver win to a narrow Vegas win. While it’s easy enough to say that Vegas just toed the line and played all 60 minutes, the penalty makes it particularly infuriating.
in October, NBA player Terry Rozier and coach Chauncey Billups have been arrested in connection with gambling at the games. It all got attention, despite the fact that casual fans can’t find the proof. Portnoy, and others who lost out on the expansion, think they have something on the Raiders here.
