David Adelman is begging the East team to trade for Trey Murphy III
The The New Orleans Pelicans were reluctant to pass Trey Murphy IIIsetting too high an asking price in the market to drive away potential suitors. And Murphy shows why the Pelicans are so high on him. On Tuesday night, despite their 120-116 loss to the underdogs Denver NuggetsMurphy poured it on from all over the court, scoring 31 points on the night on 11-18 shooting from the field.
Head coach of the Nuggets David Adelman certainly respects Murphy, throwing so many defenders towards him. And yet, the Pelicans forward is so good that, regardless of the contest, he could get buckets everywhere.
Even though Denver won, Adelman sweated over having to game plan for Murphy, remembering how well the Pelicans forward has played against the Nuggets throughout his career. The head coach of the Nuggets, in fact is begging for an Eastern Conference team to trade Murphy away so they only face him twice a year (unless they somehow run into him in the NBA Finals).
“One of the more underrated players in the West. He’s been giving us buckets for years. I feel like his high-end dunks are against us. Now he’s getting a reverse 360 layup. … I wish he’d be traded to the East,” Adelman said, via Bennett Durand of the Denver Post.
Trey Murphy III almost leads the Pelicans to a win over the Nuggets
Murphy really got it the best of the Nuggets defense in the past. He scored 41 points against the Nuggets last February, setting a career high at the time (which he has since surpassed with 42 points against the Los Angeles Lakers last week).
What makes Murphy such a tough cover is that he can score from all angles without having to dominate the basketball. The Nuggets would love to have him on the roster if only they had the means to put together a competitive offer.
