De’Aaron Fox examines the investigation into Alex Pretty’s murder

NBA the players were not shy to speak against the violence that has occurred in Minneapolis over the past few weeks. The most recent incident occurred over the weekend when police officers shot and killed Alex Pretty, an intensive care unit nurse, not far from the Target Center where the Timberwolves are playing.

The killing comes just two weeks after 37-year-old Renee Goode was fatally shot in her car as she drove away from officers after a standoff.

The Timberwolves and Warriors postponed their game because of the killing, and many people with platforms, including NBA players, spoke out. After the game against the New Orleans Pelicans, San Antonio Spurs guard De’Aaron Fox asked why there it was not an investigation launched into murder.

“We here have a stance on your basic law, don’t we?” Fox said. “I don’t know, how many of you all own guns? I own guns. We all know ‘KJ’ (Spurs forward Keldon Johnson) owns guns. But imagine if somebody breaks into your house and you shoot them in the back, right? Probably neutralized. Then you’re like, ah, (expletive), let’s dump that whole process and you’d have to go through that process…

“So that’s a little crazy, right? I’d be charged if I shoot somebody in the back, they go down. And then even if it’s in my house, even if I’m protecting my property and then I decide I want to discharge the entire clip. That’s where you get into excessive force and all these other things.”

Julian Champagne also spoke about the incident and said he stands with the protesters in Minneapolis.

“It’s an unfortunate situation that’s happening there and across the states with violence,” Champagne said, via Tim Orsborn of the Express News.

Players from other teams also announcedsuch as Tyrese Halliburton and Stephen Curry.
