De’Aaron Fox expects to make his season debut against the Pelicans

With San Antonio Spurs off to a hot start to the season, it sounds like the club will be getting a big roster boost on Saturday. Point guard De’Aaron Fox will reportedly make his season debut.
Reports indicate that Fox, who is 27, will debut in the 2025-26 season on Saturday when the Spurs play the New Orleans Pelicans, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania. De’Aaron Fox has been battling a hamstring injury he suffered in the offseason, and is now ready to play.
“San Antonio Spurs star De’Aaron Fox plans to make his season debut against the New Orleans Pelicans at home on Saturday, sources tell ESPN. Fox has rehabbed from an offseason hamstring injury and stepped up this week for his weekend debut.”
The 2023 All-Star will likely get the starting nod upon his return. That gives Spurs a big threat in the backfield to immediately complement Victor Vembanyama. Fox will enter his first game of the season with career averages of 21.5 points, 6.1 assists and 1.4 steals per game. He also owns a career field goal percentage of 47.0% while shooting 33.0% from beyond the three-point line.
Fox suffered a hamstring injury during offseason training. That forced him to miss the entire preseason, along with the first eight games of the regular season. Luckily, it wasn’t too serious, and the Spurs can benefit from having the nine-year pro back in the lineup.
San Antonio originally traded for De’Aaron Fox from the Sacramento Kings during the 2024-25 campaign to improve the point guard position long-term. We’ll see how much chemistry he builds with the Spurs’ young roster as the team hopes to stay in the Western Conference mix.
