De’Anthony Melton, another offensive wildcard on the Warriors’ bench
After the great victory of his WarriorsSteve Kerr is pleased he was able to limit his managers’ playing time: no starter played more than 26 minutes. At the same time, his replacements still contributed a lot, especially the most productive of all, De’Anthony Melton.
He scored 23 points in just 18 minutes of play (9/14 on shots including 4/6 from distance), with +20 points when he was on the floor. Most notable was the manner in which he scored. Showing that he is very comfortable with the ball in hand, he didn’t hesitate to go up against the opposition interior and show his support play and his athletic qualities to finish. All with a good dose of patience in your choices.
« Melt brings another way to score. We saw some of his attacks from the circle in the second half, scoring inside. He has a different athletic level. It’s a good addition to our offense, that’s for sure. », he can appreciate his coach.
The latter is starting to get used to this kind of production from his replacement. Even before coming off his best game of the season, De’Anthony Melton was averaging nearly 13 points over his previous 8 games, shooting a solid 47.5%, including 36.6% from 3-point range. Strong for a player who recently returned to action after a cruciate ligament rupture.
Newfound confidence
« His shooting has really improved. He was not expected to be in rhythm during the first weeks of his return. He barely played for two years. So we can see the confidence growing. He is a very dynamic player, an explosive athlete, very talented, technically very solid, it’s nice to see him play and people have complete confidence in him », appreciates Steve Kerr.
And the confidence of the players is also very high, both in the game and physically. ” I feel things are moving forward. At the same time, I’m just trying to take it day by day, game by game, and see what the next one has in store. I’m feeling pretty confident, we’ll have to see what tomorrow brings », she recently delivered a 27-year-old who could only play in 22 games so far in his second year with the Warriors.
« It’s mostly about trust. I feel more confident dribbling past my defender and making the right decision. I think when I came back in the beginning, I was so used to playing against the coach… Well, when I came back to the competition, I had to go up against 2m00 wings, 2m10 pivots and super fast guys. I think that was the biggest adjustment for me. », he finished.
