DeMar DeRozan is a few inches closer to LeBron James, Kobe Bryant’s clutch record
Just last week, things looked beyond dire Sacramento Kings. Nothing on their roster made sense, and to make matters worse, their star player, Domantas Sabonis, was slated to be out for the next few weeks with a partially torn meniscus. However, the The return of Keegan Murray seems to have helped stabilize the Kingsand on Monday night they secured their second straight win against a tough Western Conference opponent with a 117-113 overtime victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The Kings have looked very rejuvenated over the past two games, though they looked set to lose by double digits again on Monday night. However, the Timberwolves took a 99-89 lead with just over three minutes left. But then Malik Monk saved the Kings from the dead, paving the way for DeMar DeRozan to get his team over the hump.
DeRozan, who finished with 33 points tonight, scored 14 of the Kings’ final 21 points — nine of which came in overtime. This helped him approach LeBron James and Kobe Bryant’s overtime point totals.
According to Polymarket Hoops on X (formerly Twitter), DeRozan has third in points in overtime in recorded history, with 351, he trails only James (485) and Bryant (415) on that mark.
DeRozan is a certified crunch time killer and has shown that the Kings can still count on him when it matters most. Now, the problem for the Kings is to put themselves in situations where the game is actually close enough for DeRozan to do this much damage. But they seem to be turning a corner, in DeRozan’s favor.
There may be a pulse left in this Kings team

No one can dispute that the makeup of this Kings team is completely broken. Zach LaVine and Dennis Schroeder had to sit out the last part of the game because DeRozan and Monk were cooking. Russell Westbrook was deemed too important to the team’s defense, so he was out in crunch time.
Maybe a trade or two that would at least help rebalance the roster might help The Kings are saving something from this seasonhowever unlikely it may seem in the stacked West.
