DeMar DeRozan predicts a teammate will be an NBA star

DeMar DeRozan has seen stars come and go during his long NBA career. He sees the potential a standout who can shine for the Sacramento Kings very quickly in rookie quarterback Nick Clifford.

DeRozan is gearing up for his 17th career season, his second with the Kings. He wants to provide a steady presence on the offensive side of the court while helping the younger players improve their game.

The veteran forward spoke about the Kings’ prospects in the 2025-26 NBA campaign, according to reporter Brenden Nunes. He named Clifford as one player who can have a big impact about the Kings for this season and long term.

“I really believe (Nikue Clifford) is going to be a star in this league. He’s very mature and polished with his skills,” DeRozan said.

That’s a strong backup for DeMar DeRozan to give to Nick Clifford, which could play a big role in the Kings’ chances of success this season.

Clifford entered the league this year after the Oklahoma City Thunder selected him with the 24th pick in the 2025 NBA draft. They later sent him to Sacramento in exchange for compensation. He shined as a college star out of Colorado State, averaging 18.9 points and 9.6 rebounds per game his senior year.

As for DeRozan, he will look to remain effective as one of the team’s best scorers. He averaged 22.2 points, 4.4 assists and 3.9 assists per game over 77 appearances.

Sacramento has remained in the playoffs since returning to the postseason in 2023. They have competed in the playoff tournament the last two seasons, falling short as they tried to secure the seventh or eighth seed.

The Kings will continue their preparations for the start of the regular season, as they are on the road. They face the Phoenix Suns on October 22nd at 10:00 PM ET.
