DeMarcus Cousins is encouraging Trae Young to leave Atlanta
Wednesday night, The Atlanta Hawks are back in the win column away win over the Brooklyn Nets, but the biggest story of the game was the knee injury supported by point guard Tree Young. The injury occurred when Mo Gueye pushed into Yang’s lower body, causing the All-Star to fall, and although he briefly tried to stay in the game, he ended up exiting moments later.
Hawks fans are now awaiting the results of an MRI on Young’s knee, which was initially ruled a sprain, and in the meantime, fans are wondering why the team has gone 2-3 this year.
Most recently, the former NBA big man DeMarcus Cousins participated in FanDuel’s “Run It Back” show. break down why he thinks a breakup between Young and Hawks is necessary.
“I’ve seen this story before, I’ve been a part of it before, it’s just not a situation where they put him in a position to be great, and it’s not fair to him,” Cousins, who called for Young to leave the Hawks, said via Run It Back on X, formerly Twitter.

While some thought a trade for the Hawks and Young could be on the horizon following their second straight exit from the 2025 game, the Hawks went in the exact opposite direction this offseason by surrounding the point guard with by far the most talented roster of his career, making the timing of Cousins’ statement odd, to say the least.
The early returns haven’t been great so far this year, with Atlanta dropping enigmatic games against the Toronto Raptors and Chicago Bulls, but overall, there’s still as much optimism surrounding the Hawks franchise as there has been in years.
Of course, the season could change dramatically depending on the severity of Young’s injury, but the good news is that the team has already ruled out an ACL.
The Hawks next take the floor on Friday against the Indiana Pacers.
