DeMarcus Cousins rips Tyronn Lue after the Chris Paul debacle

It would be fair to say that veteran point guard Chris Paul’s second term with the Los Angeles Clippers finished stunningly. The team recently announced that they were parting ways with the 40-year-old after just 16 appearances and zero starts this season under Tyronn Lue.

So much so that the former Clippers star DeMarcus Cousins has aired his frustration with the 2016 championship-winning coach.

“You know, how he handles this situation. You’ve seen it become a pattern. I’ve experienced it, we talked about how me and him, we haven’t talked in a while. I saw him do it to Rajon Rondo the same year we were there.” he explained on Run It Back, according to a video posted by ClutchPoint on X.

Both Rondo and Cousins started the 2021-22 season with the Clippers, but did not finish it with the team.

“Now you’re doing it to Chris Paul, rumor has it that you did it to John Wall. So it’s starting to become a pattern of how he treats his players. . . And it doesn’t make sense. To present yourself as a player’s coach, you don’t really show those tendencies with these patterns that keep happening,” Cousins argued.

Lue was also an assistant coach with the Clippers during the 2013-14 season, during Paul’s first stint with the team. He went on to join the Cleveland Cavaliers in June 2014, where he eventually won a ring in 2016.

“So that’s my problem with T Lue, a lot of guys have a lot of love and a lot of respect for you, you’ve done it on both sides,” Cousins said, suggesting that Lue had a tendency to sour relationships with veterans.

Paul left the Clippers just six weeks into the season despite signing a $3.6 million contract earlier this year. In the 16 games in which he played, he averaged only 3.3 assists, 2.9 points and 1.8 rebounds per game.
