DeMarcus Cousins talks Cooper Flagg, Luka Doncic
Cooper Flagg fought for Dallas Mavericks in the last few weeks. After a slow start to his career, Flagg has learned to adapt to the rigors of the NBAshowing off his all-round game.
Some believe getting the No. 1 pick in last year’s draft, which Flagg brought them, was good consolation for the Mavericks after a string of unfortunate events, including a loss Luka Dončić in a shocking trade with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Former NBA star DeMarcus Cousinshowever, it is not too warm yet on assessing Flagg’s value to Dallas.
“It’s a conversation down the road. It’s hard to make a judgment call on a rookie in his rookie season. You know what I mean?” Cousins said on “Run It Back.”
“I think everybody knows this kid is going to be very, very good in the NBA. But do we know if he’s going to turn into Luka Doncic in the next three to four years? That’s still up in the air. We don’t know.”

At this point, that’s a lofty comparison for Flagg. He might admit it himself. Doncic, a five-time All-NBA first-teamer, is already a proven cornerstone, leading the Mavericks to the NBA Finals in 2024. But Flegg has the tools and mindset to follow in Doncic’s footsteps.
The 19-year-old forward recently scored 49 points to set a new record for most points in a single game by a teenager. While the Mavericks struggled to climb the standings, Flagg was a treat to watch.
He’s only going to get better, and Cousins is sure to give him his flowers at the right time.
