Derrick Rose’s special gift to Kevin Huerter after the Game 3 win

On Saturday night, Chicago Bulls they continued their winning streak with a narrow home win over the Boston Celtics. The Bulls won this game thanks to a late 3-pointer by Kevin Huerter in the corner, allowing the team to cement the win on a night where they retired the jersey franchise legend Derrick Rose.

After the game, Rose did a special gesture for Huerter, giving him a game ball with his signature on it.

“I’m signing this ball because Kevin Huerter just hit the game-winner and I need to show him some love,” Rose said, per Bulls on X, formerly Twitter.

Huerter has had an up-and-down season for the Bulls this year, but he came up late against the Celtics in a possession where the Bulls’ movement kept Boston off balance. It certainly seemed to benefit the Bulls down the stretch to be the Celtics for the second night in a row, including a game the previous night that went to double overtime against the Brooklyn Nets.

Meanwhile, the big story of the game before Huerter’s dagger was Rose’s jersey retirement. Rose spent nearly a decade with the Bulls, becoming the youngest player ever to win the NBA MVP award for his efforts during the 2010-11 season, a record that still stands today.

That year, the Bulls received the number one seed in the Eastern Conference and advanced to the conference finals. Unfortunately, injuries became a major problem for Rose the following season, starting with his torn ACL suffered against the Philadelphia 76ers after another regular season in which the Bulls secured the No. 1 seed.

Still, through it all, Rose and the city of Chicago have shown nothing but love for each other, and he was certainly thankful they got the clutch that night.
