Derrick White praises Jaylen Brown’s “amazing” early season play
Derrick White had high praise to share Jaylen Brown started the 2025-26 season following Boston Celtics‘ win against the Philadelphia 76ers on Friday night.
Entering the game, Brown channeled his superior qualities as the team’s first option with Jayson Tatum. In five games, he averaged 26.8 points, 5.6 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game. He shot 52.2% from the field, including 46.9% from beyond the arc and 75.8% from the free throw line.
Brown did not miss a step in the rivalry match during NBA Cup opener. In 32 minutes of action, he finished with statistics of 32 points, six assists, three rebounds, a steal and a block. He shot 13 of 19 overall, including 4 of 7 from downtown and 2 of 3 from the charity stripe.
White reacted to Brown’s performance after the game. He he described his colleague as an amazing playerrealizing Boston needs that from him on a game-by-game basis.
“He’s amazing, that’s what we need from him. He’s come out every night and done what’s needed from him. Big player and makes big plays,” White said.

As Jaylen Brown, the Celtics played against the 76ers

Jaylen Brown’s effort helped the Celtics win their third straight game after beating the 76ers 109-108 on the road.
Boston had a lot of momentum throughout the game, leading by as many as 24 points. Although Philadelphia fought back to take the game down to the wire, the visitors made enough defensive moves to hand the hosts their first loss of the season.
Bounces and turnovers made the difference in this match. The Celtics won both categories with 45 rebounds while limiting the turnovers to 10. That was not the case with the 76ers, who grabbed 40 rebounds but turned the ball over 18 times.
Four players scored in double figures for Boston, including Brown. Anfernee Simmons had a solid performance off the bench, posting 19 points, four rebounds, two assists and a block. He shot 7-of-21 from the field, including 3-of-9 from deep. It was Derrick White’s turn with 15 points and four rebounds, Peyton Pritchard had 15 points and five assists, while Luca Garza had nine points and five rebounds.
The Celtics will be looking forward to their next game, as it will be at home. They host the Houston Rockets on November 1st at 8pm ET.
