Derrick White tricks Jrue Holiday with a textbook shot fake

The Boston Celtics entered their game against the Portland Trail Blazers on Monday looking to get back to their next win their loss to the Chicago Bulls. So far, the Celtics are off to a good start, with Derrick White using a fake shot to win Jrue Holiday out of position defensivelyand side step it to knock down the early floater.

The play came early in the first quarter of the Celtics’ game against the Blazers when Derrick White caught a Peyton Pritchard pass, drove the ball up the middle against Jrue Holiday, stopped at the free throw line and used a fake shot to get around Holiday and break free for a floater.

At press time, the Celtics led by double digits at halftime. Beli had six points, one rebound and three assists in 16 minutes.

Since being traded to the Celtics before the 2021-22 NBA trade deadline, Beli was one of the best in the team and the most consistent players. He played a key role during the Celtics’ 2024 championship run alongside former backcourt teammate Holiday.

Entering Monday’s game, White had appeared in 43 of the Celtics’ 45 games, logging just over 34 minutes per game. He averaged a career-high 17.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, 5.4 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.5 blocks on 38.8 percent shooting from the field, 32.1 percent from the 3-point line and 88.8 percent from the free throw line. While White’s overall percentages may be down, there’s no denying his importance to this Celtics team.

The 29th overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, White began his career with the San Antonio Spurs where he played four and a half seasons before being traded to the Celtics.
