Derrick White’s reaction to Jayson Tatum’s practice has fans excited

New for the weekend workout video with Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum started circulating on social media. The video, captured by Adam Himmelsbach of the Boston Globe, shows Tatum looking a bit like himself before the Achilles injury sidelined him. The video caught the attention of Celtics fans and even Derrick White had to comment on thataccording to Himmelsbach.
“It was amazing to see,” White said. “Obviously all the work he’s put in, and you just see him being around more and being able to do more, and that’s exciting to see, as a friend. He’s been working hard every day, and it’s good to see that hard work add up to more movement and more opportunities.”
“You know he doesn’t want to watch,” White continued. “He wants to come out and play. But he’s been amazing just as a support. Every game with him has been a lot of fun. I have no idea exactly what the timeline is or how he’s doing, but it’s just good to see him moving around and just supporting us.”
Jayson Tatum originally suffered the Achilles injury during the Celtics’ playoff series against the New York Knicks last season. Although he appears to be making progress in his rehab, there has been no definitive word on whether or not he will play this season.
Without Tatum, however, the Celtics have defied expectations. Currently, the second seeds in the Eastern Conference standings are behind them MVP-caliber season from Jaylen Brownwho was just named the starter for the 2026 NBA All-Star Game.
Last season, before Tatum got hurt, he averaged 28.1 points, 11.5 rebounds, 5.4 assists and 2.1 steals on 42.3 percent shooting from the field, 37.2 percent from the 3-point line and 88.9 percent from the free throw line.
