DeSean Jackson, Delaware State game televised on ESPN TV with catch

After their huge win over Michael Vick’s Norfolk State, DeSean Jackson’s Delaware State Hornets will take center stage again as their upcoming matchup against the Morgan State Bears has been moved on the national ESPN network.

The pivotal MEAC contest was originally scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 8, with a likely broadcast on ESPN+. However, due to high demand, ESPN has moved the game to Friday, November 7th at 7pm ET. The game is scheduled to be broadcast on ESPNU or ESPN2, according to a statement issued by both Delaware State and Morgan State.

The statement read:

“Morgan State University has announced a schedule change for its upcoming Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) football contest against rival Delaware State. Originally scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 8, the game will now be played under the lights at Hughes Stadium on Friday, Nov. 7, with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.

The game will be televised nationally on ESPN2 or ESPNU, giving Morgan State an opportunity to showcase its program in front of a nationwide audience. The competition represents another spot in the spotlight for the Bears as the program continues to raise its profile on the national stage.”

The schedule adjustment is the latest instance of a MEAC conference game being moved from its traditional Saturday afternoon to Friday night. This trend began with a high-stakes battle between South Carolina State and North Carolina Central move to Friday which will air on ESPN as a precursor to the ACC matchup between Louisville and Clemson.

While shifting games to more favorable television spots provides valuable national exposure for HBCU programs, some fans have met the changes with consternation. Many expressed frustration that the competition’s Friday night start complicates plans to attend, as most participants have work or other commitments.

However, the continued rescheduling of games demonstrates a clear national appetite for the story surrounding coach Jackson and the Hornets’ rookies, confirming that their history-making season is of great interest to the network. More Delaware State games will likely hit ESPN’s airwaves in the future.
