Desmond Bain, Cade Cunningham played in the NBA Cup showdown


Desmond Bane and Cade Cunningham entered the fray during Orlando The Magic’s NBA Cup match against the Detroit Pistons on Friday night.

Bane is in his sixth career season, his first with the Magic. He is adjusting to life in Orlando after being traded there by the Memphis Grizzlies in the 2025 offseason.

Orlando had a big game against Detroit, which stood out as the best team in the Eastern Conference. It was it will be intense as Bain got physical with Cunningham during a timeout.

Bane did not allow an argument affects him on the field in the first half. He entered the break with 21 points, two rebounds and two assists on 7-of-11 shooting.

Desmond Bain came out for the Magic, clinching a spot in the NBA Cup knockout stage after defeating the Pistons 112-109.

Both teams traded shots throughout the game, as Orlando only led 59-58 at halftime. The tempo stayed the same in the second half as the visitors made a big enough play down the stretch to stun the hosts and run away with the away win.

Steals, turnovers and inside goals made the difference in this match. The Magic dominated in all three categories, grabbing 15 steals, limiting their turnovers to just 14 and scoring 62 points in the paint. It wasn’t the same for the Pistons as they had seven steals, turned the ball over 24 times and scored 46 points inside the paint.

Four players scored in double figures for Orlando in the win, including Bain. He dominated with 37 points, eight rebounds, two assists, two blocks and a steal. It’s Franz Wagner’s turn with 21 points and seven rebounds, Anthony Black had 16 points and four assists, while Jalen Suggs had 14 points and four rebounds.

Orlando improved to a 12-8 record on the season, holding onto fifth place in the Eastern Conference standings. They are in a three-way tie with the Cleveland Cavaliers and Atlanta Hawks while trailing the New York Knicks by one game.

The Magic will be looking forward to their next match, as it will be at home. They host the Chicago Bulls on December 1st at 7:30pm ET.
