Desmond Bain fined $35,000 for throwing ball at Knicks OG Anunoby

on Sunday, The Orlando Magic are down back down to Earth with a road loss to the New York Knicks. The Magic fell behind the eight early in this one, losing Franz Wagner to injury along the way, and ended up coming up short against a Knicks team that has already won twice this season.

One controversial moment occurred in this game when Knicks forward OG Anunoby blocked a shot attempt and fell out of bounds, at which point the Magic guard Desmond Bane took the ball and launched it to Anunobia on the ground, as opposed to starting a fast break for his team.

A puzzling decision led to Bane receiving a technical foul and now a further penalty was submitted from the league, after announcing that Bane would be fined $35,000 for the incident, according to NBA Communications on X, formerly Twitter.

This isn’t the first time Bane has failed on the anger management front, as in an early November game against the Atlanta Hawks, he similarly kicked the ball away from Hawks center Onyeka Okongwu and was subsequently ejected from the contest.

Bane has typically been profiled as a soft-spoken player during his career with the Memphis Grizzlies, so it’s unclear what has caused these anger issues so far this season, especially considering the Magic have been playing somewhat improved basketball of late.

For the next few weeks, they will have to do without Franz Wagner, with a high ankle sprain per ESPN’s Shams Charani, but the team recently returned star Paolo Banchero from his own injury.

Either way, the Magic will next take the floor Tuesday night in an NBA Cup game against the Miami Heat, the second time they’ve hosted Miami in a five-day span. The winner will move to Las Vegas.
