Desmond Bain gets a 100% realistic NBA Cup motive

Desmond Bane is locked up for Orlando Magic. With Franz Wagner nursing an ankle injury that looked much worse than his final diagnosis, the Magic needed Bain to step up — especially with Paolo Buncher still on a minutes restriction. And that’s exactly what Bane did, pouring in 37 points, five rebounds and six assists to lead Orlando to a 117-108 victory over the Miami Heat on Tuesday night in NBA Cup quarterfinal action.

Bane played like someone owed him money and the only way to get it back was to beat the Heat. That might not be too far off from what was going through the Magic Guardian’s mind. after all, Bane was recently fined for his hilariously odd throw balls right to the back of OG Anunoby during their 106-100 loss to the New York Knicks on Sunday.

“Oh, (the extra money is huge), man. I just lost $35,000 so I’ve got to get it back somehow, you know what I’m saying?” Bain said deadpan in his postgame presser, via Underdog NBA on X (formerly Twitter).

The way Bane said it makes it seem like the guardian of Magic really is counting every penny that goes in and out of his bank account. He related noteBain is set to make about $197.2 million over the course of his current contract, which would go on top of the $9.9 million he already received from his rookie deal.
