Detroit trio in spotlight at NBA All-Star Weekend 2026

The Detroit Pistons ended the 2026 NBA All-Star Weekend with a win. Cade Cunningham, Jalen Durenand JB Bickerstaff represented by Team Stars in the new format of the NBA All-Star Game series. Their team participated in three of the four matches on Sunday. With the first and last games resulting in victories, Team Stars walked away as the weekend champions.

The Pistons’ trio played a significant role in every game played during the new All-Star format. Cunningham and Duren started in several rounds while Bickerstaff was the head coach of Team Stars. Each of the clips shared enormous pride in the opportunity to share a moment in the same team.

“It’s been a blessing, man. To be around the guys that I go to war with every day in this environment at the highest level. It’s a blessing, we’ve all been thankful to be here, and we feel fortunate to be here,” Cunningham said, per Omari Sankofa of the Detroit Free Press .

The first match ended with the Zvezda team on top, defeating the World team 37-35. The second round ended in defeat for Team Stars as Team Stripes emerged victorious with a final score of 42-40. Team Stars sat out the third round while Team Stripes kept Team World winless with a 48-45 victory. The fourth round ended with the biggest difference in the score, as Team Stars beat Team Stripes from start to finish with a final score of 47-21.

Cunningham and Duren left their mark in all three rounds for Team Stars. Detroit’s starting point guard finished the weekend with 15 points, six rebounds, three assists and four steals. Duren finished his All-Star debut with 15 points, 11 rebounds and three assists. One of Duren’s biggest plays was assisting Toronto Raptors forward Scotty Barnes for a convincing three-pointer over Team World.

All-Star games don’t usually focus much on defense, but that wasn’t the case this year. The Pistons are one of the best defensive teams in the NBA, and that energy has been channeled through the efforts of all three teams.

Team Stars represented most of the upcoming American NBA stars. The Stripes team had most of the proven veteran NBA stars from America. Team World was exclusively intended for the international talents represented in the league. Bickerstaff was proud of the new format and talked about what it means for his players and coaching staff to be a part of the experience.

“It was great to be together. To be with guys that you spend so much time with, but to see them celebrate and stand out for something that they’ve earned,” Bickerstaff explained to the media after the All-Star games. “It’s not easy to get to this, and it’s just special to be able to sit next to them and watch the respect their peers have for them. You always want to be judged and evaluated by your peers and earn their respect, and I feel like our guys did that.”

Cunningham was in contention for All-Star MVP until the final round. Minnesota Timberwolves Anthony Edwards walked away with the MVP trophy after a sensational scoring performance.
