John Cena recently faced with Gunter in the last VVE match of his career. On December 13, 2025, at the Capital One Arena in Washington DC, Gunter defeated Cena in a dominant victory, after the man who never gives up has finally given up. However, one moment from the match turned into a talking point.
In a rare slip, Gunter was caught by certain eagle-eyed fans yes they have a damaged character. Midway through the match, fans witnessed Cena attempt an avalanche Attitude Adjustment on Gunther from the top rope. However, as Cena tried to pick off the “Ring General” on his back, Gunther let out a brief smile.
The blink-and-you-miss-it moment was caught on camera, leading several fans to believe the former world heavyweight champion may have broken character during his match. In arguably one of the best matches of the night, Cena and Gunther put on an incredible display of wrestling, culminating in a poetic end to Cena’s decades-long career.
After the emotional end of the match, WWE presented Cena with a touching video package highlighting his career. Soaking in the moment and the cheers, Cena closed out the night holding the boots in the ring and slowly made his way out.
