Dillon Brooks regrets playing ‘soft’ against Thunder in NBA Cup collapse

There were none expectations too high for the Phoenix Suns starts the 2025-26 season. That’s why he reached the knockout stage NBA Cup was already a great achievement in itself. But now that they were there, they must have wanted to go all the way. Alas, in front of them stood the Oklahoma City Thunder, and they fell on the road, 138-89.

This The Suns team was punching above its weight class throughout the season, thanks in large part to the appearance of similar ones Dillon BrooksGrayson Allen and Colin Gillespie. They’ve been playing great lately even though they haven’t had Devin Booker. But Booker’s absence was too much to overcome and they lost all aspects of the ball game – including mind games, with Allen was ejected for a flagrant foul penalty two for a serious foul on Chet Holmgren.

After the game, Brooks lamented the fact that he didn’t play as physical and with as much of a lead as he could try and want the Suns to at least get a close game against the reigning champion Thunder.

“I played a little soft today. I should have mixed it up more for Grayson (Allen). They called two rushes (in the first quarter). That was weak. I had to be better for my teammates,” Brooks said, per Duane Rankin of AZ Central.

The Suns have excelled this season at pushing the pace and wreaking havoc on the defensive end. But the Thunder are much better at those things than the Suns, and Phoenix couldn’t do anything to make up the difference.

Phoenix turned the ball over 20 times and OKC turned them over for 34 points. And that level of carelessness is death against a Thunder team that may not lose again.
