Dirk Nowitzki talks Cooper Flagg’s 3-point struggle

After a nervous start to the season, Dallas Mavericks newcomer Cooper Flagg has now justified the announcement that he was the best choice in last year’s draft. Although there are still areas for improvement, Flagg has proven he can lead the Mavericks.
An aspect of his game that he needs to work on is his three-point shooting. Entering Thursday’s game against the Golden State Warriors at the American Airlines Center, Flagg was shooting just 28.6% from beyond the arc.
In today’s NBA, a reliable outside shot is imperative for any shooter. While Flagg’s accuracy from deep remains a question mark, the Mavericks legend Dirk Nowitzki he is not worried. He should knowof all people.
“Quick fun fact, (during) my rookie season, I shot 29% from three, and it ended up being OK. We’re not worried about Cooper’s three,” Nowitzki told NBA on Prime.
Nowitzki, a one-time MVP, also acknowledged that Flagg is becoming more confident with his three-point shooting, acknowledging that the former Duke is tasked with doing other things for the Mavericks.

“He had a lot at the beginning of the season with running point guards (positions) and trying to get everybody the ball. I think he’s gotten a lot better month by month. It’s been easier for him to get into shots,” Nowitzki added.
“He’s been in a great rhythm since moving to his normal spot, averaging 26 and 5 and nearly 50% from the floor.”
Many forget that Flagg is only 19 years old. The learning curve is high, and gaining more confidence with his outside shot will only make him an even bigger threat.
Just ask Nowitzki, who was really good.
