DK Metcalf suspended 2 games after punching a Lions fan in Week 16

On Sunday, te Pittsburgh Steelers picked up a big road win against the Detroit Lions which, combined with a loss to the Baltimore Ravens, helped them tighten their grip on the AFC North. One of the big stories coming out of this game was the wide receiver feud DK Metcalf entered with a Lions fan, with Metcalf appearing to either punch or push hard at the fan, who was leaning over the fence to tackle him.
Now, the NFL has pronounced his sentence for Metcalf.
“NFL suspends Steelers VR DK Metcalf two games without pay for physical altercation with Lions fans during Sunday’s win in Detroit, according to sources. Metcalf, who reported the same fan to security last season, plans to appeal,” NFL insider Tom Pelissero reported on X, formerly Twitter.
An NFL official has since released a statement detailing the punishment.
“Metcalf’s actions violate league policy, which specifies that ‘players may not enter the stands or otherwise confront fans at any time on game day and … if a player makes unnecessary physical contact with a fan in any way that constitutes unsportsmanlike conduct or poses a crowd control issue and/or risk of injury, he will be held accountable, according to the NFL Network.”
If upheld, Metcalfe’s suspension will keep him out until the end of the regular season. The Steelers need another win or a Ravens loss to clinch the AFC North and earn a home playoff game.
