Domantas Sabonis trade deal discussed by Raptors, Kings

The The Toronto Raptors were pleasant surprise so far this season, currently at 30-21 as the NBA All-Star break approaches. However, there has been plenty of talk about a team that could look to be active at the NBA trade deadline, with one of the most talked about names being the Sacramento Kings the great man Domantas Sabonis.

NBA insider Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints broke down recently latest data on what a potential deal between the Kings and Raptors involving Sabonis could look like.

“League sources indicated the two teams discussed a trade framework that would include at least (RJ) Barrett, (Jakob) Poelt and first-round draft compensation, but the Raptors will not include rookie Colin Murray-Boyles, who the Kings have inquired about,” Siegel said.

However, Siegel also noted that “… Sabonis is more likely to stay with the Kings than to be traded before Thursday,” although anything is possible.

The Kings recently made headlines by trading Dennis Schroder and Keon Ellis to the Cleveland Cavaliers for De’Andre Hunter, in a deal that also involved the Chicago Bulls.

Meanwhile, Sabonis would give the Raptors a major upgrade in the frontcourt, especially with the struggles Poeltl has had to stay on the floor this year. With Sabonis in the mix, the Raptors would have one of the most well-rounded starting lineups in the Eastern Conference that seems wide open at this point.

Waiving Barrett would hurt in the middle of his career year, but the Raptors have plenty of depth on the wing, thanks in large part to the play of Brandon Ingram, who was recently cut from the All-Star team.

Either way, the trade deadline is set for Thursday afternoon. The Raptors will take the floor next on Wednesday night at home against Minnesota Timberwolves.
