Donovan Mitchell late addition to injury report against Celtics with hamstring strain

Wednesday night, The Cleveland Cavaliers will hit the road to take on the Boston Celtics, looking for their fourth straight win. The Cavs recently had a comfortable win on the road via Detroit Pistons, made even more impressive by the fact that both Darius Garland and Max Struss are currently out with injuries.

Before the game against the Celtics, the Cavs received the injury report late update in connection with the star Donovan Mitchellwho is now listed as questionable for competition due to a strained left hamstring.

“He’s definitely going to go out there and try … and see where we land,” head coach Kenny Atkinson said, per Bobby Manning of CLNS on X, formerly Twitter.

Joining Mitchell on the injury report is Sam Merrill, who is off to a strong start this year but will miss the Boston game with a right hip contusion.

Meanwhile, the Celtics’ injury report lists Jaylen Brown as probable with a left hamstring injury. Boston will of course be without superstar Jayson Tatum for at least most of this season as he recovers from a torn Achilles suffered in last year’s playoffs.

For the Cavs, Mitchell has done a great job at the point guard position so far this year, as the Cavs offense hasn’t seemed to miss too much despite playing without Garland and Strus. The Cavs started this season with a blowout against the New York Knicks, but have since reeled off three straight wins, including two against likely playoff teams in the East.

If Mitchell is unable to participate in the Celtics game, the Cavs would likely lean even more heavily on Evan Mobley, a power forward who many expect to make another leap to superstar status this year.

Either way, the Cavs and Celtics should tip things off at 7:00 PM ET from Boston. The game will be televised by ESPN.
