Doug Christie appreciates Kings GM’s “total confidence.”
Under pressure after a nightmare start to the season (5 wins – 14 losses) with Sacramento, Doug Christie can at least count on some weight support: that of Scott Perry.
Because while it is Kings frustrate their fans again, GM is out of the woods to preach patience and remember that he had “complete confidence” as his coach to lead the franchise to better days.
In a context where there is more and more talk about a transfer, this public support for the coach is not insignificant.
“His support, his validation, it’s huge”, explains Doug Christie. “He didn’t tell me anything different, so I’m happy he said it (publicly). More than anything, it’s about playing a style that Kings fans can be proud of. It takes a lot of steps to get there, but each in its own time. I appreciate that from Scott. Obviously, when the boss speaks well of you, that’s a good thing.”
But in Sacramento, coaches know all too well that change can happen quickly and that “complete confidence” doesn’t mean much compared to the impatience of owner Vivek Ranadive.
The immediate confidence remains to be transformed into wins, even if the team still looks shaky and it is hard to see how Doug Christie’s side can turn things around quickly.
