Doug Christie finds silver lining in loss to Celtics
The Sacramento Kings may have the darkest outlook of any team in the NBA; even their peers at the bottom of the table have a glimmer of hope of hanging on. Meanwhile, the The Kings have a roster that makes no sense all while having setbacks at nearly every position and injury problems affecting several of their key players. To start the new calendar year, Sacramento lost yet again, suffering its third straight loss in a 120-106 loss to the Boston Celtics.
Try as the Kings mightthis roster is simply a hodgepodge that they must move on from to truly begin their rebuild. Even some of the decisions head coach Doug Christie has been making are troubling, such as de-prioritizing Keon Ellis and Nikua Clifford, as well as delegating big-money free agent signing Dennis Schroder to the bench.
But if it’s any consolation, the Kings head coach is recognizing better effort from his team as they look to start 2026. better than Thursday.
“The level of competition and the standard that we’re looking for has been much, much better,” Christie said, per Sactown Sports 1140’s Brenden Nunes .
There won’t be much rest for these tired Kings as they face the Phoenix Suns on the road later tonight at 9:00 PM ET
Can the Kings return to their shining ways?

The Kings are in a bit of a transition period right now, but it’s clear that they’re going to have to blow up this roster eventually. At some point, they will have to embrace a youth movement and possibly build around Domantas Sabonis, the star they decided to keep instead of De’Aaron Fox.
However, Kings ownership will depend on whether they allow the team’s need to start over. But for the sake of the team, they will have to do it.
