Yesavage turned in a historic performance on the mound to cap the Dodgers’ batting order with the MVP, as the 22-year-old right-handed pitcher gave up just one earned run on three hits while striking out 12 on 104 pitches over seven innings of memorable work, coming in 1-1 for the Blue Jays.

Ohtani couldn’t do anything against Toronto’s pitching, as the National League’s reigning MVP went hitless in four at-bats while striking out once. His hitting in the third inning against Iesavage was perfect captured in a photograph that was shared by the rap superstar Drake via Instagram Stories (h/t Jomboi Media).

Just to add more salt to the Dodgers wound, Drake captioned his post with “Savage already told the dugout boss lol.”

In his final at-bat of the contest, Ohtani made contact on Blue Jays reliever Seranthony Dominguez’s splitter but was struck out to end the frame.

Aside from Ohtani, Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman also kept their MVP bats quiet.

Betts went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts, while Freeman, who was the Dodgers’ hero in an epic Game 3, struck out in all of his at-bats in Game 5.

As a team, the Dodgers went 4-for-30 with 15 strikeouts from Iesavage and the Blue Jays pitching staff.

Toronto set the tone early in Game 5 — very early.

Davis Schneider got things going with a solo home run against Dodger starter Blake Snell in the first inning to put Toronto on the board with a 1-0 lead. That was followed by another solo home run by Vladimir Guerrero Jr. for a 2-0 Blue Jays lead. Kike Hernandez cut the Dodgers’ deficit in half with a home run in the third frame, but it was all Blue Jays as Toronto scored the next four runs.

The Blue Jays can claim the 2025 World Series crown as early as this Friday, when action resumes for Game 6 at Rogers Center.
