Drake Powell sat out the Raptors game after suffering his third sprained right ankle of the season
Brooklyn Nets newcomer Drake Powell is out with another right ankle injury. After missing Friday’s loss to the Miami Heat with a sprained right ankle, the Nets ruled Powell out for Sunday’s home game with Toronto Raptors.
Powell sprained his ankle in the first quarter of the loss and was ruled out immediately. Pick #22 sprained the same ankle twice early this season after missing most of the offseason with left knee tendinopathy.
Powell walked in the Nets locker room after the game without a shoe and limping only slightly. However, a third sprain in the same ankle, not even a third of the way through the season, could keep him out for an extended period.

Powell was a somewhat mysterious man after not appearing in the Summer League and missing six games during the first weeks of the season. However, the rookie wing has been impressive over the past month as a fixture in Brooklyn’s rotation.
Powell is on average 7.3 points, 2.0 rebounds and 2.3 assists on .475/.378/.952 shooting in 21.3 minutes per game in 15 appearances where he played more than 10 minutes.
Despite posting a 13.9 percent usage rate as a freshman at North Carolina, the 19-year-old showed potential as an on-ball creator while continuing to shoot respectably from three. Defensively, he used his seven-foot wingspan and explosive athleticism to disrupt opposing guards and wings.
With Powell ruled out, fellow rookie Nolan Traore could get his first extended NBA opportunity in more than six weeks. The Nets called up Traore last week after a stellar stint in the G League. However, he only played 18 minutes in two games.
