Golden State Warriors a veteran Draymond Green admits his head coach Steve Kerr he struggled in an attempt to maximize Jonathan Cummingapotential over the years. Monitoring Kuminga and the Warriors to a two-year extensionthere was an underlying sense of optimism for Golden State’s 2025-26 campaign — its first full season since Jimmy Butler was added before last year’s trade deadline.

Still, Green isn’t afraid to admit that it took Kerr years to adapt Kuminga as a player, he said, according to Yahoo Sports’ Boardroom.

“Jonathan Cumminga is unlike any player that Steve Kerr has ever coached. That type of athleticism, that skill at that age, and the demeanor and mindset that Jonathan Cumminga has is a mix of things that Steve Kerr has never had to coach,” Green said. β€œAnd to think that, man, after six months you’re just going to adjust to it, you know, like no, it takes a while to adjust to it, right?

“And I think he’s been adjusting and learning this kid, year after year, and getting closer and closer to how to coach him.”

However, Draymond Green understands that there was a process that Kuminga had to go through.

“It takes a while when the guys you coached are Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, you know, like me and Klay are a lot alike, right? Like Steph and Klay are a lot alike,” Green added. “It’s like they’re coaching completely different people. It takes a while to figure it out. What I can say is I’ve watched him put in the time and figure it out.”
