Draymond Green recalls Al Horford’s unexpected conversation about the Jordan Poole incident

The The Golden State Warriors won to a frustrating start to the 2025-26 NBA season, currently at 9-8 on the road loss to the Miami Heat on Wednesday evening. Most of Golden State’s key players sat out this game, but the team looked similarly frustrated the night before in a loss to the Orlando Magic when everyone was healthy.

Warriors free agency signing Al Horford looks like a big bust so far, with the big man shooting 33% from the field this year.

Recently, the Warriors power forward Draymond Green he recalled the conversation he had with Horford that helped bring the two closer.

“He said, ‘Man, so the elephant in the room, I have to ask you, like we found out, what happened to you and Jordan Poolelike why?” And so we start going through the whole thing and it was a very deep conversation. And from that one question, the conversation between us probably lasted an hour,” Green said, according to Jordan Schultz.

“It was one of the best conversations I’ve ever had with my teammates, because that’s when I realized, oh, man, these new guys are coming into this team and they don’t really know what to expect from me. Like, is this guy just going to hit one of his teammates? Like they didn’t know what to expect,” he added.

Draymond Green of course punched his former teammate Jordan Poole in practice prior to the 2022-23 season, which overshadowed the Warriors franchise that year and ultimately led to Poole being sent to the Washington Wizards.

While Green hasn’t lashed out at any of his teammates since then (that we know of), he’s still widely known for his loose pace, which can spark Golden State at times and cost them games at others.

While Green didn’t explain exactly what he meant when he hit Poole, it’s good to know he can at least acknowledge the incident with some of his new teammates, like Horford.
