Draymond Green responds to NBA gambling arrests

The NBA community is shaken to its core after the likes Terry Rozier and Chauncey Billups were arrested as part of an ongoing FBI investigation into illegal NBA-related gambling. now, Golden State Warriors legend Draymond Green had his say for that matter, claiming a partnership with gambling companies not a problem.

“I was shocked. It’s a tough time for the individuals involved, a tough time for the league. But I’m not going to sit here and say, ‘man, you’re all partners with a gambling company, open a can of worms.’ That can of worms can be opened with a partnership with gambling companies or not,” Green said, according to beat reporter Kenzo Fukuda.

“Partnering with a gambling company is not going to make gambling more accessible to us. Accessibility is what it is,” the Warriors veteran explained.

Chauncey Billups coached Portland’s season opener against Minnesota in the hours before his arrest, and Terry Rozier was in Orlando for Miami’s opener but did not play before he was taken into custody. Federal prosecutors say their years-long investigation has identified seven NBA games between February 2023 and March 2024 that were targeted by the betting scheme.

Rozier was charged with providing non-public information and faking an early injury in a March 2023 game between the Charlotte Hornets and the New Orleans Pelicans.

Further, Damon Jones reportedly provided injury information related to two Los Angeles Lakers games, a February 2023 meeting with the Milwaukee Bucks and a January 2024 game against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The sports betting indictment alleges a book of selling insider injuries and lineup information, focusing bets on “underneath” props. Billups and Rozier appeared in court Thursday and were immediately placed on leave by the NBA. However, the league has yet to comment on the matter, and the findings of the investigation are expected to play an important role in their decision.
