Dviane Vade approves VJ Edgecombe comp

Philadelphia 76ers guard VJ Edgecombe was among the best rookies in the NBA this season, and has drawn comparisons to the former NBA star and Hall of Famer Dwiane Wade. As the 76ers took on the Chicago Bulls on Friday, Wade agreed with the comparisons, saying he sees much of my younger self in an explosive rookie.
“Very early when I came into the league, I didn’t have a bag, I didn’t have to use it. I just used my quickness, quickness and power,” Wade said. “When I see VJ, I see VJ going downhill, the game is obviously open, it’s more spread out, and so he’s a guy that once he plants that left foot, he goes to the top of the roof. Just his ability to go downhill, beat his guy, beat the first guy and take off from there, it’s amazing.”
“I think one thing coach (Nick Nurse) mentioned that we don’t see is him doing the little things,” Wade continued. “When I first came in, I didn’t have the ball in my hand much. I had to learn how to do the little things. ..a lot of similarities in just going downhill and also fearless. He’s a fearless player, probably jumps a little higher than me,”
During the Amazon Prime broadcast of the 76ers vs. Bulls game, side by side featured a comparison of VJ Edgecombe and Dviane Wade through their first 24 career games. Their points per game were similar with both at 16.0 points. Edgecomb has the edge in rebounding with 5.5 to Wade’s 4.4. Wade had the assist advantage with 4.2 compared to Edgecomb’s 4.0. And Wade was ahead in steals with 1.4 and Edgecombe with 1.3.
Earlier in the season, Edgecombe was the favorite for the Rookie of the Year awardand he will most certainly be on the All-Rookie team. The 76ers lost to the Bulls 109-102 on Friday, and Edgecombe finished with 10 points, seven rebounds, three assists and one steal in just over 33 minutes.
