Edwards motivates Cunningham for 40 points

Anthony Edwards was once again close to his best against the Dallas Mavericks as his 40 points helped them snap their 10th straight loss. At the same time, ANT was not the only superstar with 40 points Cade Cunningham also returns with 42 in the Detroit Pistons’ recent win via the New York Knicks.
And as it turns out, ANT took inspiration from the Pistons main man.
“I’m really doing this shit in my sleep… I woke up today and I knew I was going to get 40. I saw Cade (Cunningham) going for 40 and I was like s*ss, that means I have to get 40 too,” Edwards revealed after the game, per clip on X posted by ClutchPoints. The Timberwolves star not only watched his fellow young superstar put on one of the best performances of his career, but also used it to push himself.
“I’m kind of doing this s**t in my sleep for real… I woke up today and I knew I was going to get 40. I saw Cade (Cunningham) going for 40 and I said s*b, that means I have to get 40 too.”

The Timberwolves won 122-111 as Edwards scored 40 points on 16-of-30 shooting with five 3-pointers and six rebounds, marking his eighth 40-point game of the season. That included 14 points in the fourth quarter, reflecting the same kind of efficiency Cunningham showed just days earlier.
Cunningham proved exactly why he previously said he loves playing at Madison Square Garden. The Pistons guard had one of his most complete games of the season, posting 42 points, 13 assists and eight rebounds on 50 percent shooting in a 126-111 win over the New York Knicks.
Cunningham scored 14 points in the first quarter and even scored 11 straight points for the Pistons, who extended their streak to an Eastern Conference-best 41-13.
And yet, perhaps his greatest contribution came in the form of the inspiration he gave to ANT, who responded with their own memorable night. The All-Star MVP returned to familiar form as Minnesota cruised to its third straight victory on the trot.
They will now play against the Philadelphia 76ers on Sunday.
